I thought it might be useful to get a thread going where people could ask random questions they have that they haven't been able to get great answers to at their firm. Feel like TLS is a wide base of knowledge.
I'll start: can anyone who does oil & gas work link to a good explanation of the business? I'm on some of these calls and they're talking about bcfs, saltwater disposal, etc, and I have no idea wtf is going on. (My NYC firm doesn't practice this a ton, to say the least.) Would love both a short explanation of the engineering (how does it work) and the business -- the Latham jargon book is sorta useful but doesn't give a holistic treatment.
My $.02 contribution: if you're trying to understand lending docs, this book is a fantastic resource. Goes through covenants (both the negatives that matter for dealmaking and the operational ones -- like L/C operation, accordions, etc) really well and gives a good deal of useful color. I wouldn't trust it for discussions on what's market, etc, but if you're a junior gridding out a bunch of debt docs and have no idea wtf anything means, this will change that.
