Normal for Firm to "Ghost" After Interviews?
I interviewed fairly recently with a large firm. The first interview was over video conference, and then I did an in-person interview. I thought these interviews went really well. Shortly thereafter, the firm asked for contact information for my references. I have confirmed with my references that the firm did actually call, and I have no reason to believe they said anything negative.
That was about three weeks ago, and I haven't heard anything since. I sent one email to the recruiting coordinator at the two-week mark, just asking if there had been any decisions, and have not received a response. I normally wouldn't have checked in at all, but I'm on a bit of a time crunch housing-wise, and wanted to be positive that I wouldn't need to extend my lease.
I am assuming that I didn't get the job at this point, but has it become part of the "new normal" that a firm won't even bother telling you the bad news by letter? This is not the first time lately that I've done multiple interviews and then gotten nothing but silence.

My experience is limited to OCI and limited 3L biglaw hiring, but some firms moved slowly even when things were normal. I had one firm that got back to me with an offer five weeks after my callback interview during OCI. I would imagine now that firms might be even slower since hiring needs are somewhat in flux due to the pandemic. I think at this point, it's perfectly appropriate to gently inquire about whether you are still being considered.

Anon as identifiable but my v10 firm is apparently now running all lateral hires by the managing partner in the current environment. That’s got to slow the process down.

I did already send a check-in email once, and that was about two weeks ago to the recruiting coordinator. Are you saying I should send another one? Should I send it to the same person? I'm fairly certain it wouldn't be appropriate to email the one partner I hit it off with, but maybe not? I have no idea. Again, I'm about 99% I didn't get this job, but I would sure feel better having that confirmed.floatie wrote: ↑Sat Jun 20, 2020 10:21 pmMy experience is limited to OCI and limited 3L biglaw hiring, but some firms moved slowly even when things were normal. Maybe wait a week or so, and send one final check-in email. If you don't hear anything after that, move on.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 5:31 pmI did already send a check-in email once, and that was about two weeks ago to the recruiting coordinator. Maybe the recruiter got laid off or furloughed? or he or she is just bad at recruiting?

I can't tell if they were laid off, as their information was never on the site to begin with... It would be pretty funny if they were just bad at the job, though. Or at least, I'd find it funny if this situation wasn't so grim.Pomeranian wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 10:03 amMaybe the recruiter got laid off or furloughed? or he or she is just bad at recruiting?

They want to see whether you're a serious candidate. Keep sending thank you letters and emails. Call at least two/three times a week. If you really want to impress them stick some cash in the thank you letters.

Did you seriously make an account just to troll my post? Because this is the only post you've made thus far and it's not even clever trolling. It's somehow both pathetic and oddly flattering, but maybe you could find something actually useful to do with your time.legalfella12 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 10:47 pmThey want to see whether you're a serious candidate. Re: Normal for Firm to "Ghost" After Interviews?
During fall semester of my 2L year I flew to another state for biglaw interview. Didn't hear anything so I sent a follow up email about a month later. Then again a month after that. I just graduated and still haven't heard anything. Kind of a shitty thing to do, but it happens.
