E-mail general recruiting e-mail or directly?

Post by Anonymous User » Wed Apr 08, 2020 8:13 pm

I know that if a position is posted, you should apply through the available portal. If there isn’t a specific posting and you’re interested in a position, should you apply to the general attorneyrecruiting@lawfirm.com or specifically e-mail the director of recruiting/recruiting manager? Obviously it is nice to be referred, but I’ve had almost no success with that since the job isn’t a real opening and the firm probably doesn’t want to pay for a referral for only a potential need.

I used to go through the general e-mail, but with COVID-19 and most firms stopping recruiting for the most part, I’m concerned my resume would get lost in the pile that isn’t checked. I’m in a practice area that has not really been affected and firms have generally been really receptive to interview for non-open positions.

Any insight appreciated.

I’ve considered that since these are smaller groups, but these are pretty big firms (500+ attorneys), so I have not taken that route. However, if recruiting says no, I may go that route.
