Which job should I take?

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Mar 03, 2020 7:45 pm

I've just received two job offers, both require relocating), and I'm trying to decide which one to take.

1) high base salary. Bonus directly tied to business generated, at 10% of what I bring in.
requirements are 1600 hrs billable, 400 hrs business development

2) Base salary is about 20% lower. Bonus tied to 'profitability'. After covering my costs & share of overhead, I keep 40% of income allocated to me, on a modified Wilmer-Hale basis. (part of the income of a matter is allocated to the partner who finds the client, part of the income is allocated to the partner whose team does the work).
Supposedly, my share of the costs & overhead are covered after about 20-25 hours billed per week.

Based on that alone, which sounds better?

now some additional information. #1 says they've got so much work coming in they've got to turn away clients, especially in my niche area. So I can be busy all day without ever having to generate any business. They want me based on my particular abilities in that niche, where they don't really have the ability to do the work.

#2 says they've got a program in place (which they've described in detail) that will get me up and running to build my own book of business quickly and efficiently, so that I should have no problem bringing in more business down the line. They already operate in my particular niche, and want me based on my track record in generating business.

#2 requires taking the bar exam again

Just based on everything you have included it seems like #1 is a better option... The way you described it too seems like you want to take number 1. Just saying...
