Bonus Question
I started at a new firm in the Spring and was told that I would be eligible for a bonus usually paid in the month that we are currently in, which has been paid in this month each year, at the firm's discretion. However, I have not heard anything or received anything in my paycheck. I came from a smaller firm where our bonuses would be in our last check in December. At larger firms do they know announce when bonuses are being given? I'm just not sure what the protocol is here and rather not ask in the office, as I do not want anyone to think I'm entitled.

Re: Bonus Question
Do you know if you qualified for a bonus/hit the firm's bonus expectations? For example, do you need to just be in good standing, or do you need to hit a certain hours target? If you don't know, is there someone in professional development that you can ask? My firm didn't announce when bonuses were being paid (but everyone knew it would be the last week of December), but there was enough buzz on the day it happened that everyone knew, even if they didn't get a bonus. I think it's fine to ask - you don't sound entitled when you make sure you understand the compensation system - but I am definitely the type of person who wouldn't ask, so I get not wanting to. Hopefully there's an associate you're comfortable with enough so you can ask these questions.
