Too late to ask for a split? Do I even have to ask?

Post by Anonymous User » Wed Jan 29, 2020 1:29 pm

I accepted an SA back in early September and indicated I wanted to max out my weeks there (11-12 weeks); I'm interested in potentially using the time between the SA's end until the semester starts to work at a local gov agency that never works across from my firm and is in small market that my firm does not even practice in. First, I'm wondering if I even need to ask for permission since it would be after the SA would end. And if I need to ask, is it too late to try? I know I should probably use the time to rest, but the agency does interesting work, makes entry-level hires, and pays even better than bigfed so I'd obviously like to try for an offer and see if I could avoid biglaw entirely

If it's after your first SA ends and otherwise would not affect it, you don't need to ask.
