I have SA lined up for this summer and my background check is pending. I just checked my credit report and I have two items in collections, both medical, one for 100 dollars and one for 200 dollars. This lowered my credit score to 640 on one report, and 715 on another report.
Is this gonna be problem for me? What should I do about it?

No. Just pay it off when you get paid.

Re: Background check for NYC V10 SA - credit check?
Anon here because I’ve discussed this issue in previous posts for my own curiosity in background checks for a firm I’m going to in NY.
Did your background check info say anything about checking your credit? I’m sure it was just criminal and resume-related checks. In NYC, there’s a new credit check law that prevents employers from using a prospective employee’s credit for hiring unless it’s in very specific circumstances (which a SA or associate likely does not meet). In fact, I called a V5 and a leader in HR confirmed this to me.
That said, credit problems may prevent you from passing the bar later on if you don’t take care of your debts responsibly because that would be related to C&F.

Re: Background check for NYC V10 SA - credit check?
As of a couple of years ago, NYC made it illegal for prospective employers to check your credit score. I doubt this stops credit discrimination completely, but law firms are not going to be running around blatantly violating the law.
