Legal Employment Ann Arbor

Post by nativtracker » Tue Nov 12, 2019 9:23 pm

Can anyone offer their takes on the legal scene in Ann Arbor and/or reputable firms in the area to practice corporate law? I am also looking at potentially tech companies, given that there seems to be a pretty big tech scene there. It's hard to make a determination because I am not familiar with the area and/or firms. Any advice or firms to consider would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a 3L at Michigan and did not interview with any local firms, so I am only vaguely aware of the local legal market. With that being said, I know that Gunderson has a small office in AA and that many of the Michigan mid-law firms like Honigman and Dickinson Wright have an office here. AA is also a very doable commute from the Detroit metro area, so I wouldn't limit your search to AA exclusively.

I could be wrong, but I don't remember there are any Vault100 law firms having offices in AA. The few that do have offices in AA are mostly Michigan firms - Dickinson Wright, Miller Canfield, Dykema, Bodman, Butzel Long, Honigman, Riley Safer Holmes, Schiff Hardin. Those firms are hiring sporadically. I'm not quite sure how strong they are in corporate law, but overall there isn't really a prospering market in AA. It's a small city and UM students make up half the population.

If you're willing to explore other municipalities in Michigan, both Jones Day and Foley Lardner have offices in Detroit. There are also quite a few Michigan local firms doing good corporate work - Varnum, Warner Norcross and Miller Johnson always hire a couple of SAs and even entry-level associates each year.
