Anyone know anything about this recruiting firm in NYC? They seem to try to place big law associates into in house positions but I felt a little weird speaking to someone there. Also I rarely get emails from recruiters about in house positions, so just wanted to see if anyone had any experience.

Can't speak to their in-house placement ability but recently worked with Josh Bilgrei of Whistler for a lateral move and he was terrific.

Met up with one of the recruiters from Whistler Partners to discuss an in-house gig (he had presented the meeting as essentially a pre-screening for the position after I had sent him my resume), only for him to spend the entire time telling me I need to go to a firm and not discussing the in-house gig at all except to say I'm not qualified. Over the next couple of months, despite me telling him I wanted to look exclusively at in-house positions, received a number of calls, always pushing me to meet with partners from a couple of law firms they obviously have strong ties to. Definitely got the sense the recruiter cared more about the finders fee than actually listening to what I wanted for a next career move. Even the type of work at the firms he was suggesting wasn't in-line with what I had told him I wanted to do.

I'm sure there are good recruiters there, but just wanted to share my experience. I definitely wouldn't recommend them.

This was almost exactly my experience. The associate recruiters were nice people and would describe a range of options, then the founder (Sean) would get on the phone and wave away any idea of in house and try to fast talk me into interviewing with firms that really weren’t what I was looking for. If you’re trying to go to Cooley, Goodwin, Fenwick, or a handful of other tech and EC/VC firms then it’s probably a good match. If you’re at one of them already maybe they can get you in house. Strengths and weaknesses like any recruiter.
