Second bite at W&C apple?
If someone got dinged from W&C but got a good clerkship and reapplied would they get a serious look? I know the firm has a "no lateral" policy, however I'm wondering if summering elsewhere and applying off of a clerkship counts as being a lateral hire?

Probably depends on the clerkship. But it's worth a shot. If it can happen at WLRK despite their similar policy on laterals (and it has), it can probably happen at W&C.JFrench wrote:If someone got dinged from W&C but got a good clerkship and reapplied would they get a serious look? Yes they take clerkship applications.JFrench wrote:If someone got dinged from W&C but got a good clerkship and reapplied would they get a serious look? For what it's worth, this is exactly what I did and I got the job. During the time when I was hired, and in subsequent hiring seasons when I interviewed, this actually seemed fairly common. W&C hires a ton of its associates post-clerkship. And, to my knowledge, they did not keep track of whether an applicant had been rejected as a law student.

For what it's worth, I did an on-campus interview with W&C and didn't get a callback. I applied off of my clerkship, and got a callback interview. Didn't get an offer, but I would still infer that W&C doesn't treat an initial ding as a per se bar in post-clerkship hiring.

I’ve heard from a midlevel that they take about 50% of their associates from the post-clerkship market. My rejection letter from them also told me to apply post-clerkship (btw did you get a personalized rejection letter? I did and it included a decent amount on post-clerkship stuff but I don’t know if it means anything). I don’t think the odds are probably ever good but I’m definitely planning on trying again.

Did not get a personalized rejection. Did you make it to the callback stage?Anonymous User wrote:I’ve heard from a midlevel that they take about 50% of their associates from the post-clerkship market. I got a personalized rejection, signed by every partner at the firm. Both classy and a big "fuck you."

I got one, signed only by the screener interviewer, and did not make it to callback stage. Damn I wanted that job. Doing OCI while being both at the top of your class and awkward is a great way to have all of your social insecurities rubbed in your face for a few weeks.Anonymous User wrote:JFrench wrote:Did not get a personalized rejection. I got the same thing. Personalized and signed by screener with a note.Anonymous User wrote:I’ve heard from a midlevel that they take about 50% of their associates from the post-clerkship market.
