Associate at firm I accepted an offer with left me a voicemail saying to call if I have any questions; how to respond?
Accepted an offer with a firm late last week; in the hours after I accepted I had a handful of attorneys email me telling me congratulations, to reach out if I have any questions, etc etc. I responded to all of them thanking them and telling them I’d contact them if anything comes up, standard stuff. Today a young associate I interviewed with gave me a call and told me to call them if I ever have any questions. How should I respond to this? I don’t really have any question that would justify calling them. Would it be acceptable to thank them over email? Should I make up a question to have an excuse to call?
Sorry if this is neurotic, I can already feel my strike out anxiety morph into no offer anxiety.

Acknowledge receipt of the VM and thank them via email. Don't make up a question just so you have an excuse to call the associate.

Seconding this. Just send an e-mail acknowledging, saying thank you, and you'll reach out if you have questions.SFSpartan wrote:Acknowledge receipt of the VM and thank them via email. Don't make up a question just so you have an excuse to call the associate.

Don't stress about it. Many firms ask their junior associates to reach out to students who accepted their offers to leave a good impression. The associate was probably just doing his job, a thank you email reply is fine.

I had to make these calls last year, and I literally didn't care whether you called or emailed me back or just ignored it. An email response is perfectly fine. I don't think I ever thought about the calls again after I made them.

Email is probably the polite thing to do, but it really doesn't matter. As others said, recruiting usually tells everyone to say congrats after an offer is extended. Often, the congrats is sincere as well. But, don't think anyone really cares much if they get a response.

Recruiting likely asked them to do this, so don’t get weirded out by it. You don’t have to call or email.

I don't know why you wouldn't call just to ask about their time at the firm, which partners they work with, bonuses, when people exit, how busy different groups have been, whether they pay a bar loan/how much/when....this is your chance to get inside dirt with no repercussions. Just call and be a normal person and you could learn a ton that could help inform your time and trajectory at the firm. No questions means you're not thinking hard enough how to play the game. Sorry.
