I genuinely enjoyed everyone at each of these firms and each seems a fine fit for my personality. I am broadly interested in regulatory work, with a special interest in privacy and FDA/life sciences. I have some interest in litigation (general and appellate), but I would be splitting my summer with a lit boutique so I'll get that experience there as well. I am also aiming for a post-grad clerkship (but also possibly after a couple years at a firm).
I guess my biggest consideration is if there is any meaningful difference in exit options between these firms. I'm thinking FDA or appellate clerkship.

I made a very similar choice several years ago—literally decided between Hogan and Covington in the end, wanting to do regulatory work. I chose Covington, solely because I liked both places and Covington was more prestigious. It’s very hard to assess exit options. There probably won’t be a huge difference, especially for regulatory attorneys. Even more so than other types of lawyers, it’ll be your specific expertise and experience that makes you stand out.
If you really think you want to do FDA, I think that counsels more for Covington, which has the clear number 1 practice there. Privacy is pretty even, with maybe a slight edge to Hogan. I’ll add that I’m not in the privacy group at Covington, but I have worked with them a decent amount and I really like almost everyone in that group, including the partners.
