Does anyone know the average post-cb response time for Jones Day Cleveland?

Also, on the slim chance anyone else is targeting Cleveland, feel free to use this for a general discussion thread for Baker/Squire/Benesch etc

Anyone know what normal response time post-CB is for BakerHostetler? I know a poster above said they received an on the spot offer, so should you assume that if you haven't heard from them a few days post-CB it's probably a ding?

Anon above. I'm actually currently trying to decide between Jones Day Cleveland and Sidley Chicago. Still pretty torn and basically just picking based on city at this point. Cleveland is home, but I think Chicago could be fun for a few years. Interested in transactional work and I feel like Sidley might have the edge there, too.

Cleveland is home, but I think Chicago could be fun for a few years. Interested in transactional work and I feel like Sidley might have the edge there, too.

Great choices. I went JD Cleveland. Also Ohio born and raised and loved everyone I talked to. Slightly worried about their non-100% offer rate in 2018 (if anyone has any info why, please share) but it was high enough where it didn’t deter me from accepting my otherwise-first choice. Anyway, look forward to working together if you choose it.

To the extent it's helpful in making your decision, it's probably easier to lateral from generic biglaw firm in Chicago to generic biglaw firm in Cleveland than vice versa (particularly since you're from Cleveland)

My friend got a same day (maybe on the spot, can't remember exactly) offer. I got dinged 3-4 weeks after callback.

My thoughts on that too. OP probably has the connections to get back to Cleveland after working in Chicago biglaw.

I obviously can't reveal the source, but I know that the two no-offers last summer happened because of some outrageous and shocking social behavior combined with very poor work product. As long as you are a relatively normal/polite person who doesn't blow past deadlines, it's still an office that all but guarantees your offer.

Good to know, thanks for the information. I assumed it was something pretty egregious like that given that pretty much every other JD office was at 100% offer rate, but it’s nice to have that assurance.

I generally agree with the comments about Chicago and Cleveland biglaw and transferability between them. I do know folk who have transferred to NY, so that might be the roundabout route.

The big difference between the cities has to be cost of living, particularly close to work. If you're looking tostart (or already have) a family, Cleveland is going to let you buy a nice family home somewhere with good public schools for a couple of hundred thousand and keep you within an easy commute to work.

Certainly Cleveland doesn't have the cachet of Chicago - you might have fewer law school friends offering to visit (or begging for use of your guest room/couch). But you're going to save more money more quickly. And if you're working biglaw hours, who wants a 45-60 minute commute each way?
