Should i let firms ive had a CB with know that i have an offer in hand?

Situation = that I had pre-OCI CBs with firms more than a month ago that I thought went well but both said wait till Mid-August for a response. Now havr an offer in hand from a 3rd firm. Do I update the other 2 and reiterate interest?

I don’t think there’s a wrong answer. But if you prefer one of the firms that you’re waiting on an offer from then you should let them know at some point, maybe next week when they’re not as busy with callbacks but maybe now. Accidental anon user is baseballfan660

Probably depends on when your current offer explodes. If you have a month, I'd probably wait and e-mail them next week since that fits with the timeline they gave you. If you have 2 weeks, let them know now if you would actually prefer to work at those firms.

Two questions:
1.) How do you word the email / who do you send it to? (I don't want to be an asshole)
2.) Do you need to commit to the firm you're emailing over the one you currently have an offer at? I would be torn between the two firms (the one I have an offer at and the one I don't) and would do secondlooks, see who else from my school got offers, etc -- I wouldn't be jerking them around but I also couldn't say I would 100% go to the firm I don't have an offer at yet.

I did this with success last year. I ended up receiving an SA offer from my top choice, a V10.

I emailed the head partner of the office. He interviewed me, and it was clear that he was the ultimate decision maker. So I would email the highest up person you interviewed with (assuming it was a good interview). You could also copy the recruiting contact (probably a good idea).

Basically you want someone with authority to forward your email to recruiting, saying “we need to get this guy/gal an offer letter pronto.”

My email read something like this:

Dear Partner,

XX here. As you may recall, I am a law student at X. You interviewed me for a summer associate position on X.

Since we last spoke, I received an offer to join another firm next summer. While I am grateful for this opportunity, (your firm) is still my top choice. I am particularly drawn to / excited about (something unique of the firm).

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to advance my application with (your firm). I would truly appreciate an opportunity to begin my legal career at (your firm). Thank you in advance for your time.

Sincerely,

XX
