No info on interviews, but be cautious of Venable. Their CA offices have some particularly bad and difficult partners. I would only accept an offer from them if you have no other better options.

Can you (or anyone else) elaborate? LA or SF office, or both? Which practice groups? I have a call back coming up in LA with them. Anon because info will out me.

Different anon than the previous one, but I'm a former associate in the DC office, and everyone, including partners in DC, spoke poorly about the LA partners in the tax group. I knew someone who was thinking about transferring to the LA office for personal reasons and the DC partners were like "we cannot let you go work for those people, so you can keep working for us from LA." I never had personal experience with any of them, and no one ever told me any details, so not sure what the actual issues were/are. I've been gone for a year so it may have gotten better (but based on the other anon's comment on this thread, I'm guessing it hasn't), and not sure if the issues extended outside of the tax group (my practice group did little/no crossover work with LA or tax so ymmv).

I work at Venable (although not in CA) and really love it here. Would be happy to answer general questions about the firm. If you have specific questions though, make non-anon posts and I could PM you info.

I'm a former Venable paralegal (DC office) and left to go to law school. It's a great firm to work for, and the associates I know/knew there considered themselves lucky. I did hear from multiple reliable sources that there were several problem partners in CA, but the DC office was great, and I never worked with or heard of any mean or unprofessional partners. I would 100% recommend the DC/Baltimore/NY offices to anyone considering working there - I had a really good experience there.

I work for Venable in one of the east coast offices, and can verify that I absolutely love my coworkers (both partners and associates). At least in my practice group, you would be hard pressed to find a bad apple. Happy to discuss more over PM if you have other questions.

Original anon here. Confirming problem offices/partners are in both LA and SF. Extends beyond just tax practice. Mean partners. Lots of politics and backstabbing from associates. Worst firm that I ever worked at.

I’ve heard the DC office is decent, but again I would be very cautious on accepting an offer in the CA offices.

OP here. I see we've gotten a bit off topic, but I'm curious as to whether anyone has insight into east coast hiring (DC/NYC). Is there any movement to be expected soon? Or, has anyone else interviewed for either these Venable offices and heard anything back?

They said CB 8/13. So I guess around a 2 day turnaround for offers.

Has anyone actually been dinged from a callback yet?

CB 8/20 and they mentioned it was the last session of callback events they were hosting. Radio silence since then, but I know another person who recently got dinged. Anyone have recent updates?

What were you interviewing for (entry level, summer associate, etc)/what office were you interviewing for?

Interesting that you know someone who was dinged - was it from a screener or from callback? I'm still ghosted from my CB 8/7 but I just thought they were saving all their dings for a wave.

I sent a mass mail to their recruiting contact a week ago and just got an e-mail asking me to fill out their EEO form, so it looks like they may not be finished interviewing yet. Or maybe they just want to keep my information on file to sell my data.

They were rejected after call-back.

Their offer dinner is tonight, just FYI. They might make a few more offers, but I have it on fairly good authority that they over-offered so are concerned that they might end up with a bigger class than projected.

Is anyone in this thread someone who interviewed for the DC/NY office for an entry-level associate position and NOT for a summer associate position?
