Received an Email from a Firm I Interviewed With But Did Not Get an Offer From Last Summer

Post by rsox5000 » Thu Jun 27, 2019 1:21 am

I'm a rising 3L, and last summer I managed to get a callback with my #1 choice firm; sadly, I did not receive an offer and ended up as a SA at another big law firm. However, I received an email today from the other firm saying that they "loved meeting me last summer" and advertising an associate position once I graduate. What are the chances this email was just sent out to a bunch of people? My mind is telling me I'm probably one of about 1 million people who got the email, but I'm curious (this is a firm with a pretty low CB-offer ratio of about 30%).

I am sure you weren’t the only person who got it, but they probably wouldn’t send it to someone they didn’t think had a chance.

Yeah, definitely take a shot if that's your top choice. You actually have decent leverage if you're getting an interview with an offer from another firm in hand.

I think this is right. You weren't singled out, but the notice isn't pro-forma to all rejected candidates.

you should look into it. I've run into firms/groups that don't really take summer associates into certain groups, but almost exclusively takes 3L recruits.

They may have underestimated their hiring needs. Can't hurt to express interest.

I'm in the exact same boat and got the email. Neither hiring groups were of interest and I'm not sure if I will be happy if I can't get out...
