Other than getting contacted by more recruiters, what are the benefits of having a completely built out LinkedIn page? A few of my contacts have really robust profiles - awesome summary, great descriptions for each of their roles, lots of activity and interests, the whole 9 yards.
I on the other hand have my jobs listed and that's it. Just title and position, no descriptions or anything additional on the page.
I'm starting a new job this week and am updating my title and position as well as my profile pic, and it got me wondering whether I should invest a bit more time into my page. But it made me wonder, what's the point? Hearing about more opportunities is fine but I've never found recruiters to be all that great in the first place. Will I get asked to connect from other people (non-recruiters) more frequently? Do event organizers search linkedin for potential panelists or anything?

Re: What are the benefits of having a completely built out LinkedIn page?
I keep in touch with a number of my professional contacts (mentors and peers) primarily on LinkedIn. It's kinda like Facebook... I don't need LinkedIn to find out where my friends are working, but it's very helpful for helping me keep track of more distant contacts.misterjames wrote:Other than getting contacted by more recruiters, what are the benefits of having a completely built out LinkedIn page? It also helps - at least for me - as a backed-up repository of everything I would ever conceivably want to include on a CV. CVs are tailored for each specific context, so things go on and come off all the time. Having my LinkedIn be a "master repository" ensures I know exactly where to look whenever I want to add something back into the ol' CV.

I update my linkedin consistently so it's not suspicious when I build it out to lateral elsewhere.
I don't think "fully built" out is necessary or helpful though. Just keep it up to date.
