In August, I applied to a V10 through a recruiter. The position had been filled and they were no longer looking. Fast forward to February and the posting is up again. I interviewed and was offered the position.
I searched the firm’s page and realized the TWO associates that are my level that they hired in August (as laterals) were both already gone.
Should I be concerned about the work environment or just chalk it up to “fit” not being right? The thing that concerns me the most is that neither one of the associates that left has an updated LinkedIn. They both have an end date at this firm (one was out in 4 months, the other in 7), but no new firm.
For people at a V10’s flagship office, is it normal for laterals to leave (or get fired) within months of starting or do you think there is some underlying issue within the team?

Re: Should I be concerned?
From my (albeit limited) perspective, this would definitely raise red flags for me. Fit could definitely be an issue, but sometimes the bad "fit" is because of an abusive partner who no one wants to work for. I don't really know how I would go about scoping it out - anyone you know in the group or at the firm who might be able to ask?

First, congrats on your offer!
Second, I think the key question is whether the two August hirees were both hired into the group you plan to join. If you'll be in M&A, and the two August hirees were litigators, I don't think what happened to them should be a relevant consideration for you.

At my friend's firm, they hired several laterals because the group they hired for was so busy. Two left within a year . . . largely because it was so damn busy. That could be a big factor.
