Reasonable travel expenses—reimbursement for interview travel Forum

I’ve been traveling around a lot for interviews, and sometimes, I grab breakfast at the hotel. None of the places I’ve interviewed with have given me strict limits on prices—but I always try to be reasonable. Last week I got a parfait and a bottles juice and it was $26. Today, I ordered a basic breakfast (2 eggs, meat, and hash browns) and a tea. It was $33.

Should I expect to receive any pushback on these? The prices seem quite high, but I didn’t do anything excessive.

You won't get pushback, but $33 for a basic breakfast does sound high. My old firm had a $25 limit for breakfast when on the road. Now, that limit was just for current employees (not interviewees), but I think of it as a reasonable point of reference. My practice when traveling (assuming I'm not staying at a hotel with free breakfast) is to grab breakfast at Starbucks - it's just about everywhere. I can usually get a nice warm sandwich and a smoothie/parfait/or fruit cup for around $10; add a coffee and we're still under $15. Other coffee shops usually sell breakfast essentials at a similar price point.

I did not expense my Hamilton ticket, but Yes to everything else….meals (even lobster, filet, etc), drinks, room service, transportation, but not first class (unless you have the points for a reasonable price).
