Going Back to Previous Firm

Post by wolfdog » Wed Feb 06, 2019 10:27 am

I worked at a small firm before law school and have been offered to return for my 1L summer. Since I had a great experience working there would it make sense that I go back for 1L summer, or would it hurt me during OCI to have been at the same place over the summer as before law school?

Any advice would be helpful!

I can't see this being at all negative in any way.

Seems like a good opportunity, OP, provided that you’re getting some substantive legal work done.

If I were interviewing you, I'd take the opposite view. To me, it shows that you were good enough to be invited back as a 1L SA (and I encourage you to emphasize in your interviews the reasons they offered you to return for your 1L summer based on your experience prior to law school--having this as your 1L summer job makes it very likely you'd get questions that would prompt this) and shows me your a repeat player (i.e., not afraid to stick with what works instead of trying to fix things that aren't broken).
