oscar grade sheet for firms?

Post by whynott88 » Fri Feb 01, 2019 11:48 pm

I did a JD & PhD and so my transcript is 1/4 law courses and and 3/4 my humanities grad courses. I want a biglaw job, but I feel like even though I have good law grades, recruiters see the goofy phd classes and ding me.

Do you think it would be acceptable to send my list of law grades from oscar to firms along with cover letter and resume then only send transcript if they follow up and ask?

Others may feel differently/know better than me, and I only have anecdotal advice. But I received more of my screeners through mass mailing than OCI (NY firms don't do OCI at my school) and I never included a transcript in the initial email. Some firms asked for my transcript before extending an interview, some asked me to bring it to the screener, and one asked for it between my callback and me receiving my offer (I always brought a copy of it to the interviews, it was just never asked for).

All of that is just to say that if you think your transcript is getting you dinged by recruiting before you get a shot at interviewing, then leave it out. It's possible to get interviews without it. For what it's worth though, I was in the top 20% of my class at a T30 and I included my GPA on my resume. So whether or not you have a strong law school GPA and whether or not it's reflected on your resume may also play a part.

I like the suggestion above. I’m also not sure that the issue is seeing your goofy humanities classes so much as seeing that you did a PhD at all (maybe this is a minor distinction or what you meant but I thought I’d throw it out there.)
