2L Seeking Summer Employment Forum

Student from a T-14 here, with grades in the top 40% percent. OCI came and went unsuccessfully but I'm trying to remain optimistic.

I've applied to both in-house jobs I've seen on LinkedIn and Indeed as well as government positions. It seems like everyone is focused on hiring 1Ls at the moment. I don't want to feel utterly defeated but I just don't know where else I could be looking. My goal is to end up at a firm. Does anyone have any leads on any firms that are still hiring 2Ls in major markets or in-house positions that I may have missed?

Personally, even at a T14 with decent grades, in January I'm applying everywhere so smaller, less prestigious, firms (especially around your law school), public interest places, state government stuff, etc. I wouldn't expect to get a biglaw SA at this point.

What happened at OCI? did you have many screeners? did you get many callbacks? etc. Try to figure out what went wrong and work with career services on it (your application materials and interviewing skills being the obvious potential problems). Good luck.

This is TCR. Obviously, nothing's impossible - there have been TLSers in the past who've gotten 2L BigLaw SAs at this point in the cycle - but BigLaw should not be the expectation at this point. Much more important is trying to find a respectable legal position for the summer - any position at all.

I am in the same situation as you. I now realized what went wrong with my screeners and I've worked on correcting my issues. I wish I knew then what I know now..
