Will government shutdown effect tentative offer?

Post by dc123 » Sun Dec 23, 2018 1:39 pm

I have a tentative offer for an AUSA position and have completed my E-Qip although that is still under review by HR and hasn’t been released to the investigating agency. Does anyone know how this shutdown will effect the on boarding process? Are the HR officials considered essential as well as the people that do the investigations? Is there anyway my offer would be rescinded? Thanks for your help!

I doubt it would be rescinded unless the spending bill in the end reduces AUSA funding. At worst, you're hiring will just be delayed until the AUSAs are funded again when the partial government shutdown ends.

Yeah, it won't get rescinded, I just highly doubt anything will get done on it until the shutdown is over. Pretty sure HR/background check investigators aren't essential (HR hasn't been in my USAO in past shutdowns).

Ditto on your offer not being rescinded.

I'm not sure how the funding works, but the background investigators who look into your e-quip questionnaire are actually private contractors. So if their contracts have already funded them you might not even be delayed.

Worst case scenario, you're probably looking at like a week delay. The government rarely shuts down for long.

I accepted an offer from DHS back in September. HR told me that my package is at the final stage (BI)- anyone know if the DHS investigators are private like the USAO ones mentioned above?

I’ve got a conditional offer with an agency contingent on my TS/SCI clearance and BI. I spoke with the agency before the shutdown and was assured that the shutdown would only slightly delay the process, but would otherwise have no effect on my offer. I imagine the USAO is the same.

Thanks for posting this...I’m in the exact same spot (tentative offer with USAO, completed e-qip) and getting kind of nervous with the shutdown. This made me feel better.

I am in a similar position. Got an offer from a federal agency right before the shutdown and am waiting for it to reopen before I get specifics and can tell my judge I'm leaving. I feel like I am lying to my judge by keeping it a secret and it's driving me crazy!
