Sample lateral interview questions to ask?

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Nov 29, 2018 3:44 pm

Starting my lateral interview season now and I’m wondering what questions you should ask to an interviewer. Does anyone have a list of must ask questions they have to keep the conversation going?

Obviously it’ll differ by practice group (corporate), but any sample questions would be greatly appreciated

How’s associate culture, do associates hang out after work, what social events are planned, what’s the billable requirement.

When I was doing lateral interviews, I made sure to ask detailed questions about the practice group, how people worked together, who was responsible for what types of work, how they handled assignments to associates, etc. Sometimes it might be clear that a partner is hiring you to work solely for the partner, but other times it could be you're going to be working for multiple people, so you'll want to get a sense for how they balance workloads across associates. Find out what the track to partnership is, if they do a stop at counsel on the way to partnership, that type of thing.
