Considering In-house at investment bank
Does anyone know what the typical base compensation is for an in-house lawyer at a top investment bank if leaving one's firm as a senior associate? Also, if you move in-house to a bank towards the end of the year (like right now), would the bank pay the amount of the bonus you would have received had you stayed at your firm?

On the bonus front, my understanding is that it's a case-by-case basis. You could use it as a negotiating chip..."would you let me start February 1? No, we really want someone to start by early November. Well I'd be leaving behind $100k in guaranteed bonus that I already earned for the year" and see how it goes. I think most places will offer something for a sign-on. However, I don't think it's anything like a law firm where it's just expected that laterals will get a sign-on bonus to compensate for the one that is left behind.
Wrt everything else, it probably depends what bank and what city. My understanding is that in NY the banks pay much more in-house than in LA or something. It still may be highly dependent. Sorry it's not a better answer.

Can someone post their salary? Curious what one would get paid. Also, compliance roles. Salary? Is the work rewarding? Can you return back to a legal role, in house or otherwise?

It’s a dumb question. Do you have any idea how big legal/compliance departments are at BB banks? There are jobs at banks that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy and there are jobs that recruit from the partnerships of Cravath, S&C and DPW.
That being said, none of my friends who work in compliance at banks have described it as “rewarding”, but no one takes those jobs for that reason. They take those jobs because they’re 9-6 and the pay is OK.

Bingo. Some of these banks have 500+ (if not 1000+) attorneys.Anonymous User wrote:It’s a dumb question. Do you have any idea how big legal/compliance departments are at BB banks?
