Hello TLS. I've been meaning to write this post for a while, because my blog gets more hits via TLS than it does through Bing. Seriously, see below. https://imgur.com/a/PNrcsMO I won't link it here but those of you who read it know what I'm referring to. On top of that, I'm feeling particularly gregarious today as I just successfully helped a person struggling with sexual harassment at a law firm, so I thought of doing a Q&A on TLS.
Unfortunately, after some thought, I realized I can't, because I have to be careful about what I say. It just wouldn't work. For obvious reasons, my blog only contains provable facts, opinions declared not defamatory in case law or news stories. I'm not joking. I have cases for every statement. For example, see the amusing cases I relied on to call an attorney callous. Page v. Los Angeles Times, No. B162176, 2004 WL 847527, at *9 (Cal. Ct. App. Apr. 21, 2004) (“Furthermore, even if the statement did imply Page was ‘irresponsible and callous’ such an implication would be constitutionally protected opinion because such epithets are not provably false.”) (citing to Milkovich v. Lorain Journal Co. 497 U.S. 1, 19 (U.S. 1990); Mitchell v. Random House, Inc. 865 F.2d 664, 670 (5th Cir.1989) (inference plaintiff was “callous” is nondefamatory opinion; James v. San Jose Mercury News, Inc. 17 Cal.App.4th 1, 14, 20 (accusation lawyer engaged in “sleazy tactics” not defamatory) (Cal.App.4th 1993); Cochran v. NYP Holdings, Inc., 210 F.3d 1036, 1038 (9th Cir.2000) (accusation lawyer will lie to win a case nondefamatory opinion.))
But I would be happy to speak with you in private, the contact information is on the blog.
Most importantly, for those of you who entered the law to do good, keep it up! I come from a very idealistic background and rest assured, there are many more like me, and you. To give you an inspiring example that I learned of last week, a former boss of mine, a successful partner at a top consulting firm, sold his house and took a two year sabbatical to move his family to an impoverished area, to serve the poor -- for no reason other than that his church asked him to. Not everyone is in it for money.
If you'd like to reach the author of the blog about discrimination and sexual abuse in law, that gets so many hits here Forum
