Side Hustle as Federal Attorney
I know this would likely involve getting an ethics decision from agency, but curious if anyone out there is currently a federal attorney and has either a (a) side hustle in a non-legal field or (b) takes on cases on their own that is in a nonrelated field to what they are doing for the federal agency. For instance, if I am doing only real estate for a federal agency, would I be able to take on a consumer law case on my own time? Thanks in advance for any help!

Hmm, also interested in this. I have a website that pulls in $2k/month that I'd like to keep, but it's simply selling consumer products.Anonymous User wrote:I know this would likely involve getting an ethics decision from agency, but curious if anyone out there is currently a federal attorney and has either a (a) side hustle in a non-legal field or (b) takes on cases on their own that is in a nonrelated field to what they are doing for the federal agency. My sense is, that non-law related side hustles are okay, but law related ones are not. But not sure if that is accurate.

OP here - I did some additional research. I think that's probably right for non-legal stuff. I think for legal it's fine as long as you're not representing a client in front of federal agency or providing representation that is similar to the duties of your job....so I imagine totally unrelated fields would be fine, especially in a state matter? Any thoughts?
AND - Congrats on your side hustle! That's awesome.
