Graduated in May and waiting for bar results
I've got an offer to be a law clerk at a good firm in the area I want to go into. It's a 6 month position and although it won't turn into an attorney position I can apply for an attorney position if one is open. About 1/4 of the attorneys at the firm started out in a similar position (temp law clerk)
I also have an offer to join a small firm as an attorney but its not in the area I want to go into.
What would you do?

Is the law clerk position doing something you’d want to do? Would you want an offer of permanent employment at the end of the 6 months?seahawks23 wrote:Graduated in May and waiting for bar results

And to add on another question, what happens after 6 months if there isn't an attorney position open, or you don't get it? Are you on the street, or can you work there for 6 more months? If it's attorney-or-out, take the small firm job and look for greener pastures. Looking for a job while unemployed (and when you weren't employed as an attorney for 6 months) will be exponentially harder.Anonymous User wrote:Is the law clerk position doing something you’d want to do? Re: Law Clerk v Attorney
It's a fairly decent sized firm so I could probably continue clerking till an attorney position opens up/go work at a smaller firm in the same practice area
