Normal for Doing Conflict Check Before Getting Offer Letter?
Hi TLS, I'm a bit confused as to the offer process for BigLaw. I accepted verbally, received a conflict check document, and got an email telling me to complete the check (this email states something along the line of a conflict check is a prerequisite indicated in your offer letter - which I havent received?). Should I be asking for this offer letter?

If you don't get it in a day or two, you can definitely inquire, but yes, it's normal. When I lateraled, I accepted the offer verbally and began conflicts right away (they were busy and wanted to try and get me in). The guy who had to sign the letter was out of the country, so it took a couple of days. You may want to consider waiting to tell your firm until you get the offer letter, but frankly you should be waiting to tell your firm until after you clear conflicts anyway, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Chiming in to emphasize the above. Don't tell your firm until you've cleared conflicts! While unlikely, there have been a few cases of offers getting pulled due to a serious conflict issue.gregfootball2001 wrote:frankly you should be waiting to tell your firm until after you clear conflicts anyway, so it shouldn't be an issue.
So the lack of a formal offer letter at this point is frankly something I wouldn't be worried about. Any such letter would be contingent on conflicts clearing anyway.

What about going through conflicts before any real offer?

What about it? Do firms actually do this?Anonymous User wrote:What about going through conflicts before any real offer?

I'm confused. Are you the OP? OP's clearly received (and accepted) an offer.Anonymous User wrote:It's happening to me right now lolQContinuum wrote:What about it? Do firms actually do this?Anonymous User wrote:What about going through conflicts before any real offer?
If you're not the OP, where are you in the interview process? Have you had a site interview, or a phone interview, or any interview at all? Is this a small firm? Seems really strange that any firm would want to waste the time/resources to do a conflicts screening even before knowing whether they actually want to hire you (let alone whether you would accept an offer if extended). I've never heard of a single BigLaw firm that does this.
