Best paths to inhouse
What are the best paths to in-house counsel? I've heard some people say a JD/MBA helps but I'm hesitant about the additional debt. Others have also mentioned working in big law firm. Would appreciate any advice. thanks!

Depends on what kind of in-house position, but if you want the best path to being a GC, I would work for one of: Gunderson, Fenwick, or Cooley and then try get in one of the startups you work with.

The traditional path to going in-house is to work for a couple years at a BigLaw firm after graduation (preferably in corporate), then switch. You don't need an MBA.

OP here: how about a F500 company? still big law? are there particular practice areas or firms that feed for GC positions?

I've heard that tech transactions and employment seem to give a slight boost to your chances.
Does anyone know about what oil and gas in-house positions are like? I'm currently in my first year as a general transaction/energy associate and just wondering what that part of the in-house market is like.

Does trying to move from a Big 4 accounting firm to in-house hurt your chances because you're not coming from biglaw?
