Cancelling out of state callback last minute
Got some callbacks and offers late from mass mailing. Just received offer from my top choice firm tonight. An out of state firm has paid for me to interview with them Thursday, with flight leaving tomorrow. I plan on accepting my top choice offer. Do I cancel the interview? I know they said the ticket is non-refundable and I feel bad, but also don’t want to waste their time. Any advice would be appreciated!

1. Accept the offer you intend to accept
2. If you are hoping to split the summer with the upcoming firms, go to the interviews. If you just want the first offer for the entire summer, reach out to recruiting at the CB firms upcoming to let them know you've accepted an offer at another firm. If they ask which firm and market, feel free to answer if you'd like.
3. If you're withdrawing, recruiting will call their travel agency and cancel your travel arrangements, and you won't cost a dime.
Not to be too negative here, but their excitement to host you and pay for your travel begins and ends with potentially hiring someone they could see hiring as an associate in the long-run. If you're no longer a candidate for that, they'd rather save the money. Don't feel bad cancelling. In fact, you're doing the responsible thing in letting them know that you're no longer considering them for a 2L SA.
edit: glossed over the non-refundable part, which I'm a bit skeptical about, but at minimum they should be able to cancel your hotel, which will save money.
edit2: I also assumed you're flying at a time that would allow you to cancel, but if your flight is first thing tomorrow, that is a bit trickier, but you can still reach out and consult the firm on your hotel accommodations.

Yeah, this sucks, you would only be making it worse by taking up all the time and resources needed for a callback. That’s way more costly than the tickets and whatever. Just be polite and professional.
Congrats on the offer.

Don’t worry about the ticket. Why would you go to an interview when you’re sure you don’t want the job or to work for the firm?Anonymous User wrote:Got some callbacks and offers late from mass mailing. Is it a location you just want to visit? I’m puzzled.
