Cold-email a law firm’s recruiter (lateral)?
Has anyone had any success doing this? I know of someone who just left a firm in a position I’ve been interested in and the firm hasn’t posted anything regarding it. Is it kosher to reach out to the recruiter asking if the firm is open to hiring someone for that position? I know there are sometimes unposted listings that headhunters use, but I’m wondering if anyone has had any traction cold-emailing the firm.

What's the downside? Showing interest (and that they don't have to pay a recruiter, if they're interested) is never a bad thing. They might not be looking at the moment, but will likely keep your info around.Anonymous User wrote:Has anyone had any success doing this? I guess I’m just worried that they’ll be annoyed and throw away my stuff (which isn’t the end f the world). I reached out to my associate friend there and she said the best she could do was send it to recruiting since there isn’t an opening for it.gregfootball2001 wrote:What's the downside? It’s a small group (5-7 people), so I doubt they’d create another position. Just worried about getting rejected now and not being able to apply if/when a posting appears.

That's highly unlikely. Just go for it. The probable worst case scenario is that they tell you there's not a position available right now. I don't know anybody who would hold a grudge because you reached out to see if a position is available.Anonymous User wrote:I guess I’m just worried that they’ll be annoyed and throw away my stuff (which isn’t the end f the world).
