Is Lateral.ly legit?
Looking to lateral but don’t have a ton of free time to constantly look for positions. I’ve tried recruiters and they all kind of sucked.
Stumbled across lateral.ly and submitted my resume so I can get access. Is the site legit?

Yep. Had a good interaction with them. I like that you get to see the firms/jobs, and don’t have to give your resume first. Plus their people seemed good and I got a signing bonus when I used them.

Re: Is Lateral.ly legit?
I used Laterally to moved to a new firm last year - specifically worked with one of their recruiters, and I had a great experience. I'm sure I could have handled things on my own, but the database is great, and the signing bonus is pretty nice. And they gave me some good advice when it came time to leave my firm that I think helped me navigate my exit pretty smoothly, all things considered.

Re: Is Lateral.ly legit?
I think they’ve gotten more selective in who they allow to use their site/resources.
I graduated with my LLM from NYU/Georgetown, have a JD from a top-20, and a BA from a top-10 school. I had decent grades (missed cum laude by a little). I work in a very specific area and have almost 2 years of experience. I know this is a hot area right now because I’ve snagged interviews already through recruiters. I just thought firms don’t want to pay recruiters insane amounts, so, to up my chances, I sent my resume to lateral.ly.
They sent me an email rejecting me, essentially. They said they look for people who have 1-7 years, graduated from top schools, and work in hard to fill areas.
They said they also look for people working in top 50 firms. I’m assuming this is where I got dinged since my firm isn’t a V50.
Anyway, surprised to say the least.
Hopefully they’ll reconsider

Interesting! I definitely had pretty bad grades, but I did go to a T6 and was in a niche practice area as a mid-level associate (although not at a V50), so that may have balanced things out in my favor. I didn't realize they were selective at all - but I did assume that the extent that their recruiters are willing to work with you (and not just give you access to the database) would depend on how confident they are that they can place you. Looks like things have definitely changed over the past couple of years.Anonymous User wrote:I think they’ve gotten more selective in who they allow to use their site/resources.

Yeah, I was kind of shocked. I guess it functions like a recruiting agency, so I shouldn’t be surprised by it.Anonymous User wrote:Interesting! I’m a YHS grad, URM, female with good (not great) grades. They rejected me. Oh and I’m a mid level. I have no doubts that I can be placed relatively easily, so it was definitely unexpected.Anonymous User wrote:Yeah, I was kind of shocked. They must have very specific listings or something then. I was surprised by my rejection, so yours is shocking.
I’m assuming that they only get paid if you take one of their exclusive jobs since the rest of the jobs are posted on firm sites (but they probably still have to shell out the $5000 bonus). So maybe they just didn’t have a non-posted opening in your field.
My friend got on it and said that most of the jobs look like they’re the same ones posted on firm sites.
