Should I Start Mass-Mailing for Post-Graduate Employment?

Post by Anonymous User » Fri Aug 31, 2018 9:20 am

I am a rising 2L at a T10, bottom 10% of the class, and struck out at OCI. I have a 2L SA at a regional big law firm that pays market for the area, but I was hoping to get a v100 SA in DC. By agreeing to spend my entire 2L summer with the regional big law firm, I triggered the extension of an offer from that firm for full-time employment post-graduation. The offer does not expire until fall of next year.

My focus fall semester will be to bring my grades up. Should I, however, start mass-mailing firms in DC after my 2L fall semester grades come out about 3L opportunities given that I already have an offer? Or will that be a bad idea/waste of time? I do think I will get decent experience at the regional big law firm, but I want to keep my options open (if I have any).

Umm, what? They've hired you for post-graduation because you accepted their offer for a 2L SA?

Yeah, I don't quite understand this? Never heard of a firm extending an offer automatically after a 2L accepts SA. But anyways, I think it'd be a waste of time to send out apps after fall semester. Firms won't be looking for 3Ls until the summer at the earliest so I doubt mass mailing that early on would do much. Remember, some firms even hire for 2L SA into the spring semester so firms would be on a completely different hiring schedule.
