Question About Going Back to Old Firm

Post by Anonymous User » Mon Aug 27, 2018 5:48 pm

So without going into too much detail, over the summer I switched law firms (from Big Law to Regional Big Law) and moved across the country. I've been at my new firm for about a month. Long story short, I hate my new firm and would like to go back to my old firm, which I left on good terms. What would be the process for asking to come back? It's kind of awkward, so I was wondering if I should just call my old partner and ask, or try to set a call up. Any advice would be appreciated!

What makes the new place so bad? That's likely going to be the first thing your old firm asks, so have a good answer. I would think through the logistics too. What brought you across the country in the first place? Are you realistically able to go right back?

Are you just having trouble getting integrated? Consider whether whatever is bothering you might pass before making a drastic move, but also balance that with the longer you wait, the less likely your old firm still has a spot for you.

You can ask but you’re goung to have to emphasize that you won’t be looking to switch. It comes off as very fickle.
