K&E vs Jones Day (CHI)
I am a student at a law school in Chicago. I have several offers from V100 firms, but I am considering Jones Day and K&E. I just received both offers, so I have time to decide, but am lost on which to pick.
What is the Chicago and national reputation of both firms? Does one have a significant advantage over the other?

This post is not sarcastic. I am not from the Midwest originally.

You’re asking about the Chicago and national reputation of Kirkland and you go to law school in Chicago. Kirkland is the best firm in Chicago and one of the best firms in the country. Are you looking to stroke your ego?Anonymous User wrote:This post is not sarcastic. I am not from the Midwest originally.

Curious about their reputation for work life/treatment of associates or career outlook is. For people looking in Chicago, which would you choose?
I go to a non-NW/UChi school in Chicago, so both offers are great for me. But not sure where the better career is.

Kirkland appears to be considerably more profitable than JD. In Chicago it would be challenging to come up with a single reason you would choose JD over Kirkland. Are you focused on lit?

JD also doesn't pay market after first year. That alone would generally disqualify JD against pretty much any market-paying firm.
Kirkland's the obvious answer here.

I'm biased against jones day but tbh kirkland isn't all that appealing to me either. they're number 1 for a reason and that reason is not because they're sunshine and puppies. like, yeah, all biglaw is hard work but kirkland is another level. I'd seriously consider your other market-paying offers unless you already know you never want to gun for partner. because in that case you should absolutely take kirkland; their exit options are amazing.
