Clerking at small law firm during the Fall? Rising 3L

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Aug 09, 2018 3:04 pm

I'm a rising 3L at a T-14. Got an offer to work part time (1-2 days a week) at a (smallish) law firm during the fall semester. Is this a normal thing to do? I was thinking of doing an externship, and at least that would have given me 3-6 credits to lighten the load, but now I'll be taking a full semester of credits. Does it sound like a good idea to accept? Likelihood is that it doesn't turn into a full time offer but I believe there's a slim chance it could.

Bonus question - I have a CB next week with a biglaw firm (for a corporate law position, west/midwest), is it a benefit to mention my working at the small firm for the fall? The small firm does "some" corporate work but mostly litigation.

Thanks!

Unless there's a pretty heavy overlap between the small firm's work and the big firm's work, I wouldn't mention it. Working during the school year can be a good way to gain practical experience while getting paid during school. Feel free to PM me if you have questions in re: working and managing a full class load - I worked for a midlaw firm part time during 2L and basically full time during 3L.
