got an offer. now what?

Post by Anonymous User » Sat Aug 04, 2018 10:38 am

I know tls will roast me for this bc the obvious answer is “now sit back and enjoy” but I am wondering what the strategy is with an offer on the table. I really like the firm I got the offer from, I have two morecallnacks to go and am still hopeful that I will land a few more callbacks (had some great screeners at the tail end of OCI last week). I didn’t outright accept the offer yet. Should I do a second look? Is there anything I should ask or look for during the second look?

Congrats on the offer!

Definitely go to the two other CBs you have lined up (and don't scrimp on effort at those CBs, treat them just as seriously as you would if you didn't already have an offer). And if you get more CBs from OCI, I suggest going to those CBs as well.

The caveat is that if you are COMPLETELY, 100% sure that you would never go to a particular firm over the firm you already have an offer at, then it's okay to decline (or even cancel) a CB at that firm. But if you're even the slightest bit unsure, I'd recommend going. You never know: Sometimes a CB can significantly change (for better or worse) your opinion of a firm.

i don't think you should mention your offer at your other cb's. it doesn't make you look more desirable having an offer on the table already. keep the focus on the firm you're interviewing with.

Definitely do a second look (unless it involves getting on a plane; but in that case still reach out and try to have a phone conversation with some attys). With an offer on the table you can ask the "hard" questions (e.g. late nights/weekends, more sensitive cultural questions etc.)
