2018-2019 3L Job Hunt!

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Jul 31, 2018 3:57 pm

Figured there's a ton of people asking about when to send out applications and what the 3L process looks like so I will get us started!

DISCLAIMER: This is not a thread to cry about not having a job or complain about how much our lives suck. Further, if you're a Rising 3L with a job lined up... go play with your own friends!

About me:
URM
T30 law school (eh grades)
Good softs before law school; decent work experience
No journal

I spent some of this summer networking with attorneys in my target market. Mostly phone calls / emails. A couple of these people sent my applications directly to recruiters (no word back yet). I recently sent out ~200 emails to recruits to see where I stand.

Thus far, my responses have been:
- 50%: Our class is full (but we'll keep you in our files in case things change)
- 20%: Apply through our website
- 25%: No response yet
- 5%: Check back in a couple weeks (or a couple months).

I already have one interview lined up at a smaller firm and will be spending the rest of this month applying to places. My goal is to have a job lined up at a firm (midlaw to biglaw) before school starts. We'll see how it goes. If other people want to talk about what they're doing go for it!

*** It only takes one! I'm not actually convinced 3Ls can't get jobs.

From the recruiters I've talked with, the general advice has been (1) to apply around now and get on people's radars; (2) network, network, network; (3) apply around January to see if any firms have lost any associates; (4) network, network, network. I'd suggest reading: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 23&t=87297

Reminder: Not the place to cry about not having a job. I'd suggest you head on over to: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 3&t=192753

Checking in. Had a callback for a litigation firm in the South. Feeling hopeful!

Bump. Hopefully good stuff to come from here.

I think I've been exhausted from previous efforts (and failures) so I haven't been as tenacious so far. Good wake up call... hopefully not too late to start sending out mass mails and bothering those contacts. Good luck with your hunt.
