So I’m having a baby in a few weeks but I have been looking for a new job for a bit (I’m not making much so I’m hoping to find a better paying position after I take leave). A couple recruiters reached out to me and I’m not sure how to communicate that I’m looking to start something end of October. Do I say I’m pregnant?
For reference I’m a second year litigation associate. My firm is not paying my maternity leave - I can take disability which pays $180/week and after ny paid family leave which gives max ~$670 pre-taxes - I mention this because it’s not like I’m planning to take 12 weeeks paid leave on my boss’ dime and then not return (still feel guilty tho but I need more money!)....

Just tell them you want to start in October. If they ask why - be honest and say you’re pregnant.

Seconding this. Don't volunteer that you're pregnant (you don't want to make it sound like you're looking for special treatment, other than the October start date), but be honest if asked why October.tier4_partner wrote:Just tell them you want to start in October. Best of luck!

I don't think you'll have much luck walking into an interview 8 months pregnant. You're going to face unfair stigma being a woman and mother anyway, but this would really be pushing it. Don't take my word for it though, ask your recruiter(s).Anonymous User wrote:So I’m having a baby in a few weeks but I have been looking for a new job for a bit (I’m not making much so I’m hoping to find a better paying position after I take leave). The recruiter(s) gets paid if you're hired, so they have a vested interest in your success. Tell the recruiter(s) you're delivery timeline and ask them if/when you should interview. If they say an employer won't care, take their word for it; they have no reason to lie about that, at least.
