Honestly even at Partner level some attorneys are just socially awkward. Unless you can think of a genuine thing you did to piss them off they probably don’t hate you.

Or* you're not as approachable as you think. Or* you could have cut him off in traffic one day and not realized it. et cetera.

Are you and your office mate different genders? I know partners that are awkward around certain genders.
Also, the partner I work with the most doesn’t greet me so I wouldn’t worry about it.

Or perhaps the same gender and maybe the partner just has a 'thing' for your cubicle mate?LaLiLuLeLo wrote:Are you and your office mate different genders? I know partners that are awkward around certain genders.

I would not put much stock into this. Partners are bizarre people. A lot of biglaw is just managing all the idiosyncratic personalities of the partners. Also they get like 1000 emails a day and need to keep track of clients, senior associates, other partners, opposing counsel, etc. When you have that much going on it is very easy to forget a summer associate or even junior associate. Just do good work and you will be fine.

It's hard to say what's going on without more information. What is this Partner's demeanor like? What do you think is going on, OP? He could be extremely awkward. That isn't uncommon at all in BigLaw. He could be a passive aggressive jerk who dislikes you for some reason or maybe no reason. That, also, would not be uncommon in BigLaw. What's the vibe he's giving off? Whatever the answer is though, you're probably more worried about this than you need or should be. You're entering an industry where people whose primary form of communication involves psychotically screaming at subordinates are so common that the term "screamers" is almost universally understood/recognized. In the grand scheme of things, you can't let a douche Partner who is passive aggressive or apathetic toward you get to you if you're going to survive and thrive in this industry.
