Re: Pre-OCI 2018
I kind of expected it to be the other way around. As in, if I have not heard back from someone yet, I probably won't. OCI starts pretty soon for a lot of schools (I know a few T14s have already submitted their bids or even received the results of bidding).Anonymous User wrote:Is anyone else surprised how slow things have been this week? Below-median URM at NU. Mass mailed every market paying Chicago firm. 2 dings, 3 firms telling me they'll be at OCI, 0 screeners. OCI is going to be rough.

Yea that is true, but most schools that have received the results of bidding haven't even let firms know of the results, so I doubt firms would start focusing on preparing already

Re: Pre-OCI 2018
I’d thought that too, but just yesterday I got a response from a firm I’d sent my resume too in June asking for a CB pre-OCI. So I think different firms are moving at different paces.Anonymous User wrote:I kind of expected it to be the other way around. As in, if I have not heard back from someone yet, I probably won't. Not the poster, but sounds like they go to an east coast school but are in LA for the summer (hence how the firm would cut costs)Anonymous User wrote:Are they flying you out?Anonymous User wrote:Straight to a CB with V20 in LAAnonymous User wrote:Anyone hearing anything in California (since the earlier posts)? East coast school, so probably to avoid costs

Married people move all the time. Anyway, if you want to stay that's fine and all. My advice would be:Anonymous User wrote:i'm from Chicago and married so leaving Chicago isn't an option.Anonymous User wrote:What about NYC?Anonymous User wrote:Below-median URM at NU. When putting together your bid list, the fact that a firm did not respond to your MMing shouldn't really be a consideration.
MM NYC. A job is better than no job. You will likely have a better chance finding something in Chicago for after graduation if you had something 2L summer than not.
When you say you received 2 dings, did they say don't bid us or just no thank you? If the latter, bid them too.
Considering below market firms.
NETWORK. Mass mailing 25 firms in Chicago and sitting back is not even close to enough. You need to be hustling right now.
Good luck.

So are firms basically done giving out pre-OCI interviews?

At least in DC it appears to be slowing down - some job fairs start as early as next week so it's not exactly "pre-OCI" anymore...Anonymous User wrote:So are firms basically done giving out pre-OCI interviews?

On another note: law students will find any possible way to make themselves feel like a failure. To reiterate for people in this thread: if you don't get anything through pre-OCI, THAT IS OKAY. Yes, there are some firms that fill some part of their summer class through pre-OCI interviews, but that is NOT the predominant hiring method at the vast majority of firms. If you have good grades, go to a good school, and have a decent personality, you'll probably end up somewhere.

Re: Pre-OCI 2018
Just a quick question, but for firms that will not be attending my schools OCI program, it is still recommended to MM/apply online through out the rest of July and August (and beyond), correct?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
