Advice on interviewing for JD PREFERRED/ADVANTAGE job?

Post by anonanonny » Sat Jun 09, 2018 7:43 pm

Just graduated. Have an interview set up for a "JD preferred" job in the next week (at a bank).

My question is how do you convince employers that you aren't going to leave once you find a position as an attorney? I am preparing to be asked if I'm taking the bar (I am) and why I want this job over other jobs (specifically attorney positions). This job is one I genuinely want and is in an area I would like to grow my career. I'm interviewing with someone who also has a JD.

Does anyone have any interview tips that are unique to JD preferred jobs? Any advice appreciated! I think I've got a good idea of what questions to anticipate but I'd love to hear from others on this.

Hey I have such a job at a bank. What I focused on when they asked this question: what I do not like about legal practice. I talked about my different internships during law school and how, for example, i did not like going to court. I also discussed what I loved about legal practice (client interaction) and connected that to the job. I argued that client interaction is not limited to the legal field.

Basically, I would figure out what you don’t and do like about law practice/attorney jobs. Then, explain how the things you do like can be accessed in the bank job!

I think that's great advice! Thank you so much! I'll definitely have answers prepared like that :D
