Radio silence from recruiter
I applied to a few jobs through a recruiter a few weeks ago. Is it normal to have radio silence or does it mean that the firm didn’t move forward with my app?

Well, sorry but if they did your recruiter would be all over you to get the commission, so... Just call them you deserve 1 minute of their time for an update.

Re: Radio silence from recruiter
FWIW I was working with two recruiters at one point. One of them kept saying she was aware of all these unposted positions and “just had convo with ... partner,” etc. she said she submitted me to these spots. when weeks went by without a word on it from her, I followed up. She said still pending. another couple weeks, followed up again. Never heard back. Followed up again a few weeks after that, still nothing. Now I only work with one recruiter.
I suspect either that those positions never existed, and it was actually just a partner telling her that somebody left the firm...or she preferred to ghost me than tell me bad news.

Recruiters stand to make a ton (for the amount of work they did) if they place you so they'll do everything to keep your resume in their hand. They're probably doing their best for you but feel free to call them you're entitled to a minute of their time for an update.

I guess I’ll call. I thought I was a strong applicant so I’m a bit surprised I didn’t even get an interview. I applied via a recruiter mostly because I was too lazy to write a cover letter and now I’m regretting it.

Get used to being ghosted by recruiters.

Assuming the recruiter was down to work with you initially, why do you think this happens? Like what does the recruiter gain from doing that, after she already deemed the applicant worthy of submitting him to firms?1styearlateral wrote:Get used to being ghosted by recruiters.

Re: Radio silence from recruiter
A recruiter, like anyone who works on commissions, must take the position that time = money, or otherwise they just won't be successful. Usually, the firm hires a recruiter to look for a specific candidate (recruiters, IME, are not "hired" by the candidate). They'll normally reach out to as many candidates as humanly possible (shotgun effect), and submit to the client for review. If the client rejects your app, what benefit does the recruiter get from even taking 2 min to call you to let you know? Zero. The recruiter only gets paid if you get hired. You might as well live on the moon at that point. Making 100 2-minute phone calls takes time, and it's not worth it to the recruiter. I wouldn't take it personally, or that the recruiter doesn't like you. It's possible for the same recruiter to reach out to you again when another opportunity opens up; it's happened to me a couple times. Sometimes they'll actually remember you.objctnyrhnr wrote:Assuming the recruiter was down to work with you initially, why do you think this happens?
