Assistant District Attorney with criminal record

Post by jbp15860 » Sun Apr 29, 2018 11:39 pm

I would like to work as an ADA after law school in Harris Co., Texas (Houston) and I am wondering if anyone has any experience there, or any other offices, who would know about gettin hired with a criminal record. I have a misdemeanor marijuana possession from 2010. By the time I would be applying it would be over ten years. I have been told that felonies certainly exclude you no matter what, but not sure about misdemeanors. Also, the new DA has decriminalized marijuana and put programs in place for non violent drug offenses, if that makes a difference. I don’t know. The reason this concerns me is because it will sort of help me make some difficult decisions when it comes down to which school based on how much money I’m getting. Thanks.

This is highly dependent on the DA office and who the current DA is, but FWIW have an acquaintance who had at least 1 DUI on his record and is current ADA (not in TX though--southeast).
