working as an RA for a professor, he mentioned he needed some work done on the history of something for his article. I sent it to him, saying i was hesitant to write long b/c of course the prof has his own ideas/preferences and b/c of my shortcomings. asked him to let me know if he needed something more. he only replied "many thanks."

You have nothing to worry about. My bosses always just say “thanks” when I send something, You’re I trouble if you get a long-winded email back.
