YLS. Former 2/9/DC CoA clerk. May apply as early as late this year, which would be 2-3 years at my Susman/MTO/W&C-type firm. Already have trial experience. Would be applying in SDNY/EDNY/NDCA/CDCA-level competitive district.
Odds? How much would adding a D. Ct. clerkship help?

Re: AUSA chance me?
You'll definitely get an interview, and your trial experience will be viewed positively. Beyond that, I'm not sure anyone can say. Adding a district court clerkship will not help, unless it's in the same district. (And in that case, it will help, but probably not enough to justify the cost.)
FYI, at my office, except for SCOTUS-clerkships, all other "good credentials" are lumped together. I.e., you won't be seen as different, on paper, from any other candidate who went to a good law school, clerked, and then spent a few years at a reputable firm.

There's no such things as odds here. Did you intern/extern at a USAO? For you, the challenge is showing that you're not just trying to add a stint in a prestigious USAO to further bolster your resume and that you really want the job.Anonymous User wrote:YLS. Adding a district court clerkship wouldn't help at the level of experience you have. SDNY and EDNY hire a lot of people, so those are your best shots. Competitive places like EDVA and NDCAL have smaller offices, so probably not going to happen there (though the D.C. Cir. or 9th Cir clerkship could boost you). CDCA also has a big office, but it isn't in the same bad of competitiveness as the rest. Might want to add in NDIL if you're ok living in the Midwest.
Like the poster above said, you'll get interviews. Need to show that you're in it for the right reasons.
