What is the general protocol for a firm making an offer to a 3L? When do they call your summer firm, and who do they call? Does recruiting call recruiting, or will an attorney you interviewed with reach out to the managing partner of your summer firm? Will they approach the applicant to ask for references from their summer firm, or let the applicant know they are calling HR/an attorney at random/managing partner? Or does all this happen after the offer and get outsourced to a firm like Aurico?
Any anecdotal evidence would be appreciated. I had a third big law interview yesterday (already had a screener and callback, and they asked me to come back in to meet with two more partners), and the partners insinuated they were going to start gearing up to make me an offer. I am well aware that nothing is set in stone, but I am wondering if I should reach out to people I worked with this summer and give them a heads up, specifically the managing partner of the office, if that's who they are most likely to call.
