2L Mass Mailing Question

Post by Anonymous User » Sat Oct 07, 2017 11:41 am

My background: struck out from OCI this fall. Mid-T14, some WE and slightly below median GPA. Been mass mailing since August, but haven't received anything positive so far.

I spoke with the OCS at our law school. She told me not to focus too much on MM, and there wasn't much that I could do at the moment. She told me to focus 100% on my studies instead of mailing my resumes everywhere. I'm a bit skeptical of her advice so I'd like to hear how you guys think about it.

I know I definitely should do my best for those upper level courses, but at the same time, I don't want to give up mass mailing altogether (MM'd 400+ so far). I really don't want to put all eggs in one basket. After all, law school GPA is unpredictable. You can put in 200% effort and stil end up with median grades.

She's wrong. Keep mailing. Branch into midlaw too. I know people who have had screeners and callbacks this week and I just took an offer last week from a late sept CB.

Mass mail.

Yeah don't listen to her. From a mid-T14 it's not too bad, mass mail everywhere. Like the above poster said, mid-sized regional firms are a good bet. They don't hire at a same pace as the large city Big Law firms, so this might be a good time. I know people who got stuff later than this.

Grades don't matter as much anymore. A lot of your friends are slacking off, so you can study later around like November.

yah do both if you can. sucks and its tiring but i think its the right move.

strong grades this year put you in a decent position for 3L oci. 3L oci is limited but if you can get yourself to top1/3 at a mid t14, I think you can score pretty well.

Others are of course right too -- literally no reason not to keep applying in the mean time though.

Not OP here. But, can MM directly to hiring partner have any adverse consequences?

Personally, I find it more effective than MM to recruiting.

If there are recruiting contacts, go through those contacts unless you have a connection with the hiring attorney. MM to a hiring partner will either be ignored, deleted, or (possibly) sent to the recruiting contact, depending on the firm/hiring partner.

This is basic networking, really.
