The Waiting Game & Encouraging Stories

Post by Anonymous User » Wed Sep 06, 2017 10:01 pm

A lot of us are playing the waiting game and it's hard to stay positive sometimes. Let this thread be one of encouraging success tales. Anyone who has received an offer 2 weeks or later after a CB please post time from CB to offer. Also, post if you know of someone else.

Great idea for a thread! I had a cb mid-August, and just received the offer today - so just over 3 weeks from cb to offer. (firm is in a larger secondary market)

I don't want to seem like I'm coming down hard on this thread or whatever, but i hope by waiting game you mean "taking this time to continue mass-mailing to all firms in cities you would even consider living in" game. Because if not, that is absolutely what you should mean. Take some time to continue holding out hope for firms that haven't dinged you yet in between each app. But continue sending them and following up when appropriate. Best of luck and absolutely keep your chin up! It's still very early.

Congrats! Did you follow up at all after the CB?

No, I never know how to non-awkwardly follow up after CBs so I just don't send anything. I honestly didn't feel like the CB had gone well (lots of weird breaks in conversations) so I had chalked it up to a ding until today. I'm going to be going to a different firm, so hopefully the release of this offer frees it up for someone else waiting!

I got an offer (several years ago) one month after my interview in a secondary market. I was clearly far down their list but whatever, it only takes 1.

Apply broadly and keep in touch with CSO. Sometimes they will have a scoop on firms still looking late in the game.

My grades were like top 40% at a T30. I got my only offer in November at a V100. After failing to get anything through mass-mailing, I applied in October through my school's simplicity page. After working a little over a year, I ended up lateraling to a V20 in my home market.

Was the process of lateraling difficult?

It wasn't super easy. I was switching markets and changing practice areas.

Got a NY V20 offer today after waiting for a bit over 2 weeks. The offer came a few hours after I sent them an email that essentially said "I'd accept an offer if I receive one". It can happen.

That's great news! Do you mind sharing anything else you said in the email, such as you have expiring offers...etc, or is what you said it?

Got an email from a recruiter asking for my availability last week. After sending him my availability, he said he's follow up on scheduling; however, it's been 3 days and haven't heard anything. Should I be worried/is this normal?? Any insight would be appreciated!

Follow up with the recruiter on Monday. It has happened to me and I got a positive response after following up.

I received a similar email and then was emailed about a CB a week after.

Above median T14 here. Not a quite long wait from CB to offer, but still encouraging story. Rejected from all my OCI interviews, promptly, and subsequently mass mailed every V100 firm and every firm on NALP with an office in NYC, DC, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Atlanta. Got a CB from a V10, received an offer a few days ago.
